Respondents' noise annoyance ratings for airborne wind energy systems measured in a laboratory listening experiment
This dataset contains data collected during a laboratory listening experiment with 75 participants in the Psychoacoustic Listening Laboratory (PALILA) of Delft University of Technology. The study measured noise annoyance for airborne wind energy systems (AWESs). Participants rated their annoyance on the ICBEN scales in response to nine recordings of in-field measurements of two fixed-wing and one soft-wing ground-gen AWES. Furthermore, participants reported their hearing ability, hearing-affecting incidents (e.g., ear diseases, accidents, loud work environments), noise sensitivity, familiarity with AWE, and demographic information. The questionnaire contained both closed and open questions. The data was collected between June and September 2023 as part of Helena Schmidt’s PhD thesis project in the Wind Energy Section of Delft University of Technology. The data is made publicly available as supplementary data for publications and the PhD thesis of Helena Schmidt and for other researchers to use in their work. Data collection was made possible by a grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) [grant number 17628] and the project Listen to the future [project number 20247] of the research program Veni 2022 (Domain Applied and Engineering Sciences).
