About 4TU.ResearchData
4TU.ResearchData is an international data repository for science, engineering and design. Its services include curation, sharing, long-term access and preservation of research datasets. These services are available to anyone around the world. In addition, 4TU.ResearchData also offers training and resources to researchers to support them in making research data findable, accessible, interoperable and reproducible (FAIR).
Mission
Our mission is to ensure the accessibility of research data in science, engineering and design during and after completion of research to give a quality boost to contemporary and future research.
Background
4TU.ResearchData was established in 2008 within the 4TU.Federation as an initiative of three technical universities: Eindhoven, Delft and Twente.
Starting with a data collection of hydrological measurements resulting from the DareLux project, 4TU.ResearchData has grown to become what we believe is the largest data repository of its type in The Netherlands. The 4TU.ResearchData Strategy 2020-2023 gives insight into the directions and priorities for further development and expansion of our services and products in the coming period.
Organisation
4TU.ResearchData is led by the 4TU.ResearchData Consortium, which consists of Delft University of Technology, Eindhoven University of Technology, Twente University and Wageningen University & Research.
4TU.ResearchData is hosted and managed by the TU Delft Library, where datasets are locally stored on TU Delft servers, and is governed by TU Delft’s legal statements. 4TU.ResearchData staff is responsible for managing and maintaining the data repository, including its preservation policy to guarantee long-term usability of the data it holds.
The technology underpinning 4TU.ResearchData is provided by figshare. It keeps the intuitive interfaces, search, and visualisation tools offered by figshare, whilst the data themselves are kept on TU Delft servers. It also provides 4TU.ResearchData with reporting tools, advanced options for restricted access and an API which allows us to meet specific user needs. Although the technology is provided at present by figshare, the data repository itself is an independent service designed for the long term, of which its content will remain controlled by 4TU.ResearchData.
Despite the Dutch roots, 4TU.ResearchData provides its services to research institutes from around the globe and welcomes further collaboration from beyond the Netherlands and the EU.
Become a partner
The 4TU.ResearchData consortium is open to organizations that share our mission and it will make an active contribution to it.
As a partner of 4TU.ResearchData :
-
You will take part in board meetings and front-office consultation, which makes you share in the knowledge and influence on the development of our products and the strategy and its implementation by 4TU.ResearchData .
-
You are represented in the cooperations and consultative committees where 4TU.ResearchData engages in.
-
You will receive discounted rates and get access to services that are exclusive to consortium partners (for now DataverseNL and the Data Refinement Fund and the Data Paper Fund).
As 4TU.ResearchData partner you are making a contribution to securing access to technical scientific research data through your commitment to the board and the local front office and with financial support from the shared back- and front office. The rights and obligations of the partners are laid down in a Consortium Agreement.
Are you interested in a possible 4TU.ResearchData partnership or do you have questions about it? Please contact 4TU.ResearchData.
