The study was done in the area of three retention reservoirs in southeastern Poland. Two of them are located in the Podkarpackie Province (Blizne and Maziarnia reservoirs), and one in the Lublin Province (Nielisz Reservoir) (Fig. 1).

In the experiment described here, the variability of suspended sediment (SS) concentrations and the content of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), total organic carbon (TOC) and organic matter (OM) were investigated to determine the potential and determinants of SS in the process of migration of these substances at the water-sediment interface in retention reservoirs.
