This dataset is a supporting dataset for "Sensitivities of ozone and radiative forcing to supersonic aircraft emissions across two flight corridors", containing all data necessary to reproduce the results of the publication.

In this experiment the atmospheric response to supersonic emissions is studied using the GEOS-Chem (v 13.3.1) atmospheric chemistry transport model by combining 26 variations of regional emission scenarios to derive first- and second- order sensitivities of the ozone column to emissions.

This archive contains the full repository of custom input data and monthly-averaged atmospheric histories underlying all results of the associated publication. For the sake of convenience the relevant data is grouped in the following manner:

  • Emission inventories (EMISSION_INVENTORIES): The containing the emission inventories which were used to run the scenarios gridded for use with GEOS-Chem.
  • Atmospheric histories (TAC... / SAS...): Zip files starting with TAC or SAS contain 10 years of monthly-averaged atmospheric concentrations from the GEOS-Chem model output for the associated emissions scenario. Scenarios are named following the emissions region (TAC/ SAS | TransAtlantic Corridor / South Arabian Sea), the central emissions altitude (e.g. 162 is 16.2 km), and optionally suffixes describing increases in emission species (e.g. SAS204_NOSO is a scenario with emissions above the south arabian sea at 20.4 km altitude, with increased emission indices for NOx and SOx). The BASELINE file contains atmospheric histories for the baseline atmosphere, which is unperturbed by emissions. For detailed descriptions of the emission scenarios see the associated publication.
  • Tropomi comparison data (TROPOMI): Data from the TROPOMI instrument from 2020 reprocessed to the GEOS-Chem grid, alongside monthly-averaged atmospheric histories for the 2020 atmosphere reproduction with the GEOS-Chem model.
  • Radiative forcing evaluations from the Rapid Radiative Transfer Model for Global cirulation models (RRTMG). Within the RRTMG.zip files are subdirectories for all 27 scenarios with radiative forcing assessments. For the related work, the AllSky assessments were used at tropopause level.
