The data files presented here accompany the publication of the manuscipt "The crane radar: development and deployment of an operational eco-digital twin." in Ecological Informatics. The presented model code 'app.R' and 'cranes-lib.R' is a snapshot of the crane radar (https://sensingclues.org/craneradar) model code at the time of publication. Changes to the model code may have occured after publication of these files, which will not be updated here. The R files give insight in the processes and functions that are built to run the crane radar digital twin. The 'app.R' represents the shiny app that runs on a server, but can also run locally on a PC. The 'cranes-lib.R' contains supporting functions that are called from the 'app.R' file. Note however that the required API connections to obtain the wind forecast data from the KNMI data platform and the crane observations from observation.org are not included in these files, because it contains specific credentials and passwords that belong to a private account of the author(s). To gain access to these API's, please contact the owners of the KNMI data platform (https://dataplatform.knmi.nl/about) and Observation International (https://waarneming.nl/api/v1/docs/).

In order to run the 'app.R' file, please create a new folder called 'www' in the folder with the R files and insert the following files in the 'www' folder:

The following files represent icons that are used for visualisation of the crane observations and the predicted locations of cranes on a leaflet map in R:

For more assisstance on using and running the crane radar, please contact Koen de Koning (koen.dekoning@wur.nl) or Melanie Arp (melanie.arp@sensingclues.org).

The word files (.doc) are anonymised interviews with birdwatchers that give more insights in how bird watchers in the Netherlands observe and report crane migration sightings to waarneming.nl, and what their interaction is with the crane radar.
