Dataset
Experimental dataset conducted at the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory (TUDelft, CITG) for the peer-reviewed article "Stability of an Idealized Floating Carpet of Plastic Spheres in an Open Channel Flow".
Plastic debris can accumulate at hydraulic structures and waste-collection devices, leading to a so-called floating carpet formation. Understanding the accumulation of plastic debris at structures is pivotal in the prediction of increased flood risk and design of waste-collection devices. In this research, we studied the stability of plastic carpets under different flow conditions using laboratory experiments, and we developed analytical models to predict critical velocities that led to two instabilities.
This dataset contains
1. Data for analysis of instability, squeezing and erosion, for the carpet (contained in 2cmCarpet.csv file), and
2. Data for velocity measurements using Laser Doppler Anemometary (LDA) (contained in 2_00meterCarpet.pickle file).
Water level was measured using Microsonic acoustic displacement sensor (model - mic+35/IU/TC). Flow discharge was measured using Proline Prosonic Flow 91W ultrasonic flow meter. Flow velocity is measured with LDA system.
