Five hundred un-orientated samples were taken from the Huangdigou section at 2 cm sampling resolution. All samples were powdered and subsequently packed into non-magnetic cubic containers (2 cm × 2 cm ×2 cm) for low- (χif) and high- (χhf) frequency magnetic susceptibility measurements using an AGICO MFK1-FA Magnetic Susceptibility System housed in the State Key Laboratory of Biogeology and Environmental Geology, Chinese University of Geoscience (Wuhan). χif and χhf were measured at 976 Hz and 15616 Hz, respectively.
