Overview

This dataset encompasses both pre-processed and measured data utilized for studying the impact of delayed inhibitor supply on AA2024-T3 intermetallic particle activity. AA2024-T3 samples (approximately 500 x 500 μm exposed area) were immersed in a 0.05 M NaCl electrolyte solution. Ce(NO3)3 was introduced at various time points relative to the start of electrolyte exposure (0, 30, 60, and 180 s). The bulk Ce(NO3)3 concentration was 0.001 M, and the total immersion duration was 3 hours. Reflected microscopy captured surface images, enabling the monitoring of changes at the intermetallic particle level. Image analysis during this immersion period constitutes the primary focus of the data analysis in this study.

The data shared specifically include the following:

1) Back-scattered electron SEM-EDX images of the metal samples before immersion

2) ImageJ ROI set corresponding to intermetallic particle locations extracted from the pre-immersion SEM-EDX images

3) Pre-processed time-series reflected microscopy images acquired at different experimental conditions

4) Local pixel activity distribution data extracted from time-series microscopy images

5) Excel files containing summary of extracted quantities for the intermetallic particles analysed

6) SEM-EDX analysis after immersion

7) ImageJ and MatLab codes used to extract quantities from the images and sample outputs from the codes
