Over a period of 18 weeks the effectiveness of the intervention Runfitcheck was evaluated. Novice runners were monitored every two weeks for their running-related injuries and running exposure. Novice runners where randomly assigned into one of the three groups: Runfitcheck group active approach, Runfitcheck group once, control group. The active approach group was encouraged to use the Runfitcheck every two weeks, the once group was only attented to the Runfitcheck in the first e-mail and the control group received no information about the Runfitcheck.
Every two weeks all groups received an email with a link to the health monitor. In this health monitor questions were asked about their running exposure, exposure to other sports and the OSTRC questions about any physical complaints.
If there were any complaints, the type and location of injury, time loss and whether the runners had any medical treatment was asked as well.
At baseline, half way the study period and at the end of the study, participants were also asked about their injury preventive behaviour.
