***General Introduction***
In order to analyse the loss of life due to hurricane Katrina (2005), a database was
compiled that gives information on the recovery locations and individual characteristics for 771
fatalities in the state of Louisiana. The input data that was used in this database was supplied by the
LSU Hurricane Center and it includes the following information: date of recovery, recovery location
(geographical coordinates, state, parish), type of facility in which the body was found, and
information regarding the organizations that performed recovery and transportation.

In the period after Katrina (2005), several institutions were involved in the recovery of victims. 
The Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) of the state of Louisiana coordinated the data collection for casualties.
The LSU Hurricane Center established a collaborative effort with the DHH and the Medical Examiners Office of the state of Louisiana. 
LSU Hurricane Center provided the data for this dataset.
The latest input data, obtained on September 14, 2006, lists 771 fatalities with recovery locations in the state of Louisiana. 
The total death toll of hurricane Katrina exceeds 1,800.

***Column headings***
The longitude and latitude of the location of recovery is provided in decimals, as well as an adress, a description and type of recovery location.
A code is assigned to each fatality by the Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team (DMORT).
If known, the team and organization that performed the recovery is provided.
If the fatality was found in a flood zone, the name of the flood zone is provided:
New Orleans Polder (NO: New Orleans Central, STB: Saint Bernard Polder, NOEast: Nwe Orleans East Polder)
