# Description of the Dataset
This study consists of data from a study that reveals the cognitive conflict skills of teacher candidates; for this, 35 teacher candidates were asked to create cognitive conflict on the subject of misconceptions in fractions. The responses of prospective teachers collected as written documents constitute the data set of this study.

# Method of Data Collection
The data were collected using a qualitative survey. The cognitive conflict strategies developed by teacher candidates to eliminate their misconceptions were recorded in written form.

# File Format and Contents
File Name: written document of teacher candidates
File Format: Portable Document Format (pdf)

Contents:
the responses provided by teacher candidates were analyzed under the following categories: “creating conflict through counterexamples (C),” “creating conflict through modeling (M),” “creating conflict through daily life examples (DL),” “creating conflict through mathematical rules (MR),” and “creating conflict through equalizing the denominator (ED).” While forming these categories, specific codes such as “half,” “quarter,” and “bread” were taken into consideration. These categories and codes are given in table1, table2, table3, table4.
- Column A: cognitive conflict categories
- Columns B: teacher candidates codes
- Columns c: Examples of teacher candidates'written responds
- Column D: Number of teacher candidates who gave similar answers (frequency)

# Ethics and Anonymization
Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the university's research ethics committee (Approval No: RTEU 2025/024). Informed consent was obtained from all participants. All data were anonymized to remove personally identifiable information.
