We provide six datasets, one for each tidal marsh in the Western Scheldt that we studied.
Each dataset contains six datasheets:
* General
* Penetration_resistance
* Shear_strength_surface
* Shear_strength_depth
* Water_content
* Bags

The parameters of each datasheet are explained below.

*** General ***

Transect: one out of three transects that we drew over the marsh
Point: measurement point along one of the transects
Vegetation: observed vegetation species
Reed: reed (phragmites australis) present or not
Date: sampling date
X: latitude in RDNew coordinate system
Y: longitude in RDNew coordinate system
Z: elevation in m +NAP
Distance_from_edge_m: Distance between the point and the marsh-mudflat edge

*** Penetration_resistance ***

Depth_cm: the measurement depth [cm]

The rest of the column headers indicate the transect, point and replicate. Below are the penetration resistance values for each cm depth, indicated in N.

*** Shear_strength_surface ***

Transect: one out of three transects that we drew over the marsh
Point: measurement point along one of the transects
Replicate: replicate A, B or C
Reading_value: reading value of the torvane (to be multiplied with 0.32314 to obtain shear strength in kPa)
Notes: potential comments

*** Shear_strength_depth ***

Transect: one out of three transects that we drew over the marsh
Point: measurement point along one of the transects
Replicate: replicate A, B or C
Depth_cm: measuring depth [cm]
Reading_value: reading value of the shear vane (to be multiplied with 0.5 to obtain shear strength in kPa)
Notes: potential comments

*** Water_content ***

Transect: one out of three transects that we drew over the marsh
Point: measurement point along one of the transects
Replicate: replicate A, B or C
From_depth_cm: sampling depth (top of sample) [cm]
Wet_weight_incl_bag: scales reading of weight sample + plastic bag
Wet_weight_incl_bag_g: weight sample + plastic bag [g]
Dry_weight_incl_bag: scales reading of weight dry sample + plastic bag
Dry_weight_incl_bag_g: weight dry sample + plastic bag [g]
Weight_bag_g: weight of the plastic sample bag [g]
Water_content_%: water content of the sediment sample [%]

*** Bags ***

An average weight of the plastic sample bags used is calculated in this datasheet.
