*** General Introduction ***

This dataset contains all data to characterize the spectral properties of Fluorescein and Eosin Y, as part
of Chapter 5 of Jelle Snieder's PhD thesis project. It is being made public both to act as supplementary data 
for the PhD thesis of Jelle Snieder and in order for other researchers to use this data in their own work.

This research was made possible by the Topsector Energy Subsidy of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs with 
project number TEHE119003.

*** Purpose of the files ***

The purpose of this dataset is to share the spectral properties of the two fluorophores. The experimental 
methods are described in detail in the corresponding chapter in the PhD thesis.

*** Description of the files in this folder ***

This folder contains all files to import, process, and plot the excitation and emission spectra of the fluorophores
Eosin Y and Fluorescein.

- 'determine_correction_spectra.m': M-file to compute the correction spectra 
The data is located in subfolder 'Excitation_and_emission_spectra/Correction_curves'. This subfolder contains the 
emission and excitation correction curves for this specific Agilent Cary Eclipse Fluorescence Spectrophotometer. 
These curves are used to correct the measured excitation and emission spectra.
The data is saved in the file 'dataset_correction_spectra.mat'.

- 'determine_excitation_emission_spectra.m': M-file to compute the excitation and emission spectra of both fluorophores.
The data is located in subfolder 'Excitation_and_emission_spectra'. 
The data is saved in the file 'dataset_fluorescein_eosinY.mat'.

- 'determine_molar_absorption_coefficients.m': M-file to compute the molar absorption coefficient of both fluorophores.
The data is located in subfolder 'Absorption_spectra'.

- 'determine_LED_spectrum.m': M-file to plot the spectrum of a single royal blue LED. 
The spectrum data is located in file: 20240425_led_spectrum_v1.

- 'plot_all_spectra.m': M-file to plot all relevant spectra. The spectrum data is loaded from:
	- 'dataset_fluorescein_eosinY.mat': excitation and emission spectra of both fluorophores.
	- 'dataset_LED_spectrum.mat': emission spectrum of the royal blue LED.
	- '475nm_longpass_curv_84737.xlsx': longpass spectrum of the 475 nm long pass filter, as provided by the supplier.

The subfolder 'Absorption_spectra' contains the absorption spectra for both fluorophores. Each file contain a single measurement
series with the same sample. The files follow the nomenclature system: X_Y_mM_Z with
X = fluorophore Eosin Y or Fluorescein
Y = fluorophore concentration in mM
Z = measurement number with the same sample

The subfolder 'Excitation_and_emission_spectra' contains the excitation and emission spectra for both fluorophores. Each file contains
5 measurement series with the same sample. The files follow the nomenclature system: X_Y_Z with
X = fluorophore Eosin Y or Fluorescein
Y = excitation/emission
Z = fluorophore concentration in mM
