This data set contains the atmospheric profiles and large scale forcing conditions used in "Large-scale controls on exrteme precipitation" in Journal of Climate, following the paper “Peak precipitation intensity in relation to atmospheric conditions and large-scale forcing at midlatitudes (doi: 10.1002/2015JD024274)” in Journal of Geophysical Research. This dataset is a composite case of the atmospheric conditions surrounding precipitation events with peak intensities in the upper decile over the Netherlands, including its temporal evolution from 12 hours prior to 12 hours after the peak intensity was recorded.

The following files are included:

initprofiles.csv
largescalefluxes.csv
largescaleprofiles.csv

initprofiles.csv (contains the initial profiles of the density, theta_l, q_t, and u at each height level (first column))

largescalefluxes.csv (contains the surface fluxes per hour during a 24 hour simulation. The first column gives the time into the simulation, followed by the kinematic heat (wtsurf) and moisture (wqsurf) fluxes and surface theta_l, q_t and pressure)

largescaleprofiles.csv (contains the geostrophic wind (ug) and vertical velocity (w) profiles per hour during a 24 hour simulation. The first column gives the height at each model level)
