Study details
Effect of limestone particle size and inclusion level on duodenal and jejunal mucosal expression of Ca and P transporters and claudins in broilers was tested in a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement. Two limestone sources, coarse (mean particle size 1062 µm) vs. fine (mean particle size 160 µm), were separated from the same limestone limestone products via sieving. These two limestone sources were then added to a basal diet at three inclusion levels, resulting in Ca/P ratio 0.50, 1.00 and 1.75 in the experimental diets (dietary P content was fixed at 5.5 g/kg in the basal diet). Experimental diets were provided on day 14 onwards, and on day 20 and 21 three birds per replicate pen were randomly selected for collection of duodenal and jejunal mucosa. mRNA expression of Ca- and P-related transporters and claudins in the duodenal and jejunal mucosa were determined on individual bird level using RT-PCR.

This dataset contains the following files:
Research data in the study about limestone particle size and inclusion level in broilers.ods. It has two data sheets entitled duodenum and jejunum, which contains data colllected from the duodenal and jejunal mucosa, respectively.

Research data in the study about limestone particle size and inclusion level in broilers.ods-duodenum
This data sheet contains data collected from the duodenal mucosa as affected by dietary limestone particle size and inclusion level. Data describing the well no. in the plate; sample name, mean Ct value and mean mRNA quantity of the beta actin (ACTB), eukaryotic translation elongation factor 2 (EEF2), glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH), importin 8 (IPO8), 60S acidic ribosomal protein P0 (RPLP0), transient receptor potential canonical 1 (TRPC1), calbindin D28k (CaBP-D28k), plasma membrane calcium-ATPase 1 (PMCA1), sodium dependent phosphate transporter IIb (SLC34A2/NaPi-IIb), zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1), xenotropic and polytropic retrovirus receptor 1 (XPR1), inorganic phosphate transporter 2 (SLC20A2/PiT-2), inorganic phosphate transporter 1 (SLC20A1/PiT-1), calcium sensing receptor (CaSR), vitamin-D3 receptor (VDR), claudin-2 (CLDN2), claudin-12 (CLDN12).
These data are followed by a table describing the mRNA expression level of Ca- and P-related trnasporters and claudins in the duodenum mucosa, as normalized by the geometric mean expression of IPO8 and EEF2. The table containing sample label, pen number, treatment code, limestone source, Ca/P ratio, the normalized mRNA expresssion level of CaSR, TRPC1, CaBP-D28k, PMCA1, SLC34A2/NaPi-IIb, SLC20A1/PiT-1, SLC20A2/PiT-2, XPR1, ZO-1, CLDN2, CLDN12 and VDR.
