Title: Replication data: A characterization of side channels Authors: van Denderen, R.P., Schielen, R.M.J., Straatsma, M.W., Kleinhans, M.G., Hulscher, S.J.M.H. Affiliation of the authors: University of Twente, Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management-Rijkswaterstaat, the Netherlands and University of Utrecht, Faculty of Geosciences Corresponding author: R.P. van Denderen (r.p.vandenderen[at]utwente.nl) Publication: http://dx.doi.org/10.1002/rra.3462 Description: Side channels are commonly constructed to reduce the flood risk or to increase the ecological value of a river. Such artificial side channels generally aggrade. We categorization the development of side channels based on the sediment that is deposited in these channels. Based on this categorization, we determine the main mechanisms that affect their development and we propose an initial framework on how to predict the long-term development of side channels. The results can be used to design, operate and maintain side channel systems. Subject: Earth and Environmental Sciences Keywords: River Morphodynamics, Side channels, Bifurcation Table of contents and brief description of replication files. A more detailed description is given within each file README: This list <.txt> RF1: Matlab script <.m> used with MATLAB R2018b - The Matlab script is used to compute the time scale of the side channel development.
