This dataset contains data collected during a survey study of residents living up to 3.5 km from an airborne wind energy system in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. The study measured residents' evaluation of a local AWES and compared it to their assessment of a nearby wind farm. Respondents rated various impacts of the AWES and wind farm on residents and nature (e.g., landscape, noise, shadow, environmental, and economic impacts). Furthermore, respondents described their perceptions of the AWES and indicated their attitudes towards local renewable energy projects and renewables in general. The questionnaire contained both closed and open questions. The data was collected between June and July 2022 as part of Helena Schmidt’s PhD thesis project in the Wind Energy Section of Delft University of Technology. The data is made publicly available as supplementary data for publications and the PhD thesis of Helena Schmidt and for other researchers to use in their work. Data collection was made possible by a grant from the Dutch Research Council (NWO) [grant number 17628].
