The dataset describes theoretical data for the desalination of monovalent salt by reverse osmosis (RO) module. The two-dimensional mass transport model uses the solution friction theory to describe salt transport across the membrane. Model prediction was compared between the RO module computation with and without hydraulic pressure loss along the module length.
From a defined set of input parameters, the model output took the form of local salt concentrations (feed, membrane interface, and permeate), pressure (hydraulic and osmotic), cross-flow velocity, and fluxes (water and salt). We used a low salinity feed solution to compare brackish water membrane (BWM) and seawater membrane (SWM) module performance. A sensitivity analysis was also done on the membrane geometry and number of elements in a pressure vessel.
We use Maple V/Release 5 to perform numerical computations and transfer the data to an Excel sheet for plotting.
