This data package provides all data and figures presented in the ESAFORM2024 conference paper: "Polymer-Metal Interactions and Their Effect on Tool-Ply Friction of C/PEKK in Melt." The purpose of the performed experiments was to identify the cause for the increase in friction between mild steel and APC in melt with dwell time. Friction experiments were performed on the following contact pairs i) APC vs. mild steel, ii) APC vs. mild steel with release coating, iii) APC vs. mild steel with additional PEKK film inserted at the interface, iv) APC vs. polyimide film, v) APC vs. stainless steel. The dwell time between closing of the pressure platens and executing the sliding motion in the friction tester was varied between 2.5, 5.0 and 10.0 minutes. DSC experiments were performed on tape material extracted from friction specimens and on as-received tape material to identify possible chemical changes during the friction measurements. Finally, SEM/EDX was used to analyze the fracture surface of of the samples. The dataset contains tool-ply friction measurements, differential scanning calorimetry data, and SEM/EDX images for UD C/PEKK (Solvay APC) against several tool materials. The scripts for processing the data are included as well.
