This study focused on the development of a novel collimator design, named the Twisted Clustered Pinhole (TCP) collimator. This design represents an evolution of the Clustered Pinhole (CP) collimator and is characterized by a modified cluster geometry, in which the pinholes are twisted around the cluster’s central axis. This configuration allows the use of smaller pinhole opening angles, which is particularly advantageous for applications targeting high-energy gamma emissions as it further reduce the chances of pinhole edge penetration.
The study was carried out through simulations, where the proposed design was introduced and evaluated in comparison to the previous collimator. Data generated using simulation software were used to assess the collimator’s performance and to reconstruct images of specifically designed phantoms. The collected data include simulation macros, collimator design scripts, performance analysis scripts, and reconstructed images. All datasets, scripts, and software used in the paper “Twisted clustered pinhole collimation for improved high-energy preclinical SPECT/PET” have been archived. A user manual detailing how to operate the software tools employed in this work is also included.
