Advancing Resilience Measures for Vegetated Coastline (ARM4VEG) , Guyana

This collection contains data collected during mangrove-mudflat campaign in Guyana, during the PhD Thesis project of Uwe Best. It is being made public both to act as supplementary data for publications and the final PhD thesis document, as well as to allow for open usage by other researchers in their own work. The detailed datasets include wave attenuation characteristics, sediment properties, bathymetry spanning 16 years, in-situ sediment concentrations and high resolution vegetation characteristics in Guyana.

There were a total of six deployments, each with varying durations. Eight frames were installed along the main transect, MB in the mangrove fringe and along the mudflat. Deployments during the period 2019 – 2020 spanned: 22 - 23 November, 24 - 29 November, 3 - 9 December, 12 - 17 December, 20 - 28 December and 1 - 11 January. The instruments (pressure transducers and Acoustic doppler Velocimeters (ADVs) were installed downward looking, with the sensor head aimed vertically at the bottom. The instruments were serviced, cleaned and data were downloaded every week or two weeks. The area has very high sediment concentration volumes and required regular cleaning. Post-processing scripts were was developed in MATLAB to carry out the spectral analysis and determine the wave parameters. The sampling frequency of the pressure transducers were set to 5 Hz to collect water levels and allow for the extraction of both infragravity waves, and wind-generated waves via a MATLAB script.
